Balancing Act...

Life is a balancing act...

It's like... you have to push yourself hard in any area to be good or superb at it... yet at the same time other areas of your life may suffer because of this...

It's not like Bolt was the best sprinter in the world AND the best investor (although with what Visa paid him... he probably made more out of that deal than many investors)...

It's not like Warren Buffet is some superb athlete...

I think it's important for me to maintain some kind of balance though...

It's like... I push myself with writing... and I really like writing, love reading through some of the things I write...

I can manage and invest money in many different ways which is nice...

I know there are other areas of life though. I know money is worthless upon death.

Life is about doing what you want as much as possible... it's like... those peak experiences which matter most...

Protest Vote

Word up...

Quick post here... quick one that I will blast out.

IT'S A PROTEST VOTE!!

These people are UNEDUCATED. They... DID NOT KNOW ABOUT THE VOTING. What they were voting for...

It's working class uneducated bad protest votes. It's...

POPULISM.

How fucked up is the actual word populism? All the political parties are trying to be popular. In fact the mainstream parties are more 'popular' than the less mainstream ones...

Just because someone did not vote the way that you voted does not mean that 'they did not know what they were voting for'. They just have a different WORLD VIEW to you.

In a democracy all votes count equally.

Everyone's doing what they think is best for themselves.

Style

Bernard says that style is something that can be applied at the later stages of writing. “The most important thing, the all-important thing, is to get the story right. Write, rewrite, rewrite again, and do not worry about anything except story. It is story, story, story.”

Yeah that's true... you've got to get the message out in whatever you're doing... then edit later... true writers know this...

Like don't even worry about spelling etc... Just get the content pure...

Classic Article

As A Writer I Will Not Be A Sheep

So...

Hot here in the UK... quite hard to sleep...

So that's mean you're getting a pure instinct article...

As a writer I will not be a sheep...

I've just finished rereading my Fool articles again...

And you know what... in a way I have to say the editor did a good job...

But... there will be no editing here...

So on the first article I said that I believed Boris Johnson would be the new Prime Minister... I think they edited that a bit. I believed I knew he would be and he did. Then the editing came in that I thought 'he could be' a better negotiator than May, something like that.

I think you'd have to be... very bad at negotiating to be as bad as May. I think will Johnson will be much better...

So... I mean that's what I actually think... I still think that article is good overall though...

It's like... as a writer, taxpayer and just person I will not just be a taxpaying sheep. My sister gets paid FAR MORE than me in wages as a doctor... I can't spend my life just paying her wages if the NHS is wasting money treating people who haven't paid money in. That's just stupid and wouldn't happen in most EU countries...

Some public sector workers do a good job (my sister is actually a good doctor, pays out of her own money to go to foreign countries and helps people)... but others are... lucky to be in a job for life...

I think a lot of public sector workers would have quite a shock trying to work in the private sector. I mean... I reckon a lot of them wouldn't last long...

Yep... it's like I've been doing a few online chats today... talking about how "I wanted to be a writer since I was young"...

I said... I'm good but it's hard to get paid for it.

Actually got published aged 4 in The Huddersfield Examiner...

Don't buy the Examiner now though... because it's Labour owned...

Sorry Robert Sutcliffe... lols.

It's like... 35 now... still a writer.

I'm getting too old to pull punches... I have to deliver realness... even if some people don't like it.

There's too much unskilled labour from the EU (and other parts of the world)... this drives British wages down. Britain is overpopulated too...

It's quite a hard balance being a share investor, writer... and just Mark Howitt, British.

But unskilled (and criminal) immigration needs to be dealt with.

The Best Howitt Investor

"Even your Grandad had shares... not many, he was very careful with money."

My dad told me that.

It's not as if my dad spends a lot of money on himself either. He's always worked hard but never felt the need to buy anything flashy.

I asked him when he first bought shares. I think he said 15 or 16... I don't even know he managed to buy them at that age back then.

I was 15 years old. I didn't even really think about money really but I was careful with it. My dad said I had too much money in cash and should buy some shares. He gave me a share magazine to look at.

I didn't know anything about shares but started reading the mag. I chose Manchester United. "They will make money."

My dad looked at it and agreed. He bought some himself.

He had to basically open a share account in my name but I bought the shares with my own money.

I didn't even really look at the price but sold them for about a 200% profit.

I was 21 before I actually started to read about shares and learn about them. Started with a Fool book. Underlined a lot of that shit.

There is this concept called the wheel of life and money was part of it. I was still writing my novel at this time and really not into consumerism. Yet I started to accumulate money like a score in a computer game.

My dad never pushed me into being a share investor, not unless you count when I was 15. And that wasn't really a push, more a suggestion.

But now I do have a goal to be the best Howitt share investor. I know how hard my dad had worked for his money. And he has always given a lot away to charity.

I am my favourite charity. I don't give anything to beggars.

Also my dad will not buy any 'sin' shares. I will buy anything.

I hope that my lifelong dedication to shares and these edges will make me a better share investor than him. We will see.
