Writer Rating
Been thinking...
I wonder what my writer ELO AKA rating will get to... and what it is...
How do you measure it?
Style?
Over 1.2 Million views for @MarkHowitt on X in a year...
I think I've got a lot of each........ and I still like blasting out every day if I can...
I do want to spend more time doing certain styles and types of writing... and ideally get paid more...
Surreal thing now in this modern age... everything you write can be read WORLDWIDE... and can be there even AFTER YOUR DEATH...
It's only really been in about the last 20 years or less that this has been possible... certainly if you're thinking about control over your own writing...
Writers in the past had to write on PAPER then HOPE it might get PUBLISHED.......
Through blasting out what I want I have amassed well over 10 million views worldwide...
But it's definitely NOT just about the views... some people may have more VIEWS than me but it might be RIO FERDINAND writing 'never a pen'...
Influence... style... understanding psychology and philosophy... all these elements make up a GM writer...
And as I've said to other writers getting to the GM level or making a living etc from writing is NOT JUST ABOUT THE WRITING...
You have to have other skills... and ideally other ways of making money...
Ideally you want to get to the level where you don't NEED the money to write which I'm more or less at...
I guess more money is USEFUL but you should never let it influence you to not being real...

GM Coaching Book Me Up
I want to state this too because I do get this... more in real life than the DMs...
Are you a CHESS GRANDMASTER?
NO I AM NOT! Not even close to that level in chess prob...
I still do PLAY chess though... even though I don't put in time LEARNING new opening theory... not that much anyway...
I still play some nice combos though... I guess subconsciously I remember what I've seen... some openings I do know pretty deep as I've been playing them for many years...
At some point I'd like to do a Vid titled I AM NOT A CHESS GRANDMASTER ... part of me is surprised I've talked to so many titled players since 2005...
When I coach I like to make sure I'm BEST VALUE FOR MONEY UK coach ON THE INTERNET. I do that by making my prices CHEAP... and usually only teaching players who don't have as much experience...
Can be worth learning some chess just for mental sharpness as Peter Wells said...

Long Term Perspective
You know the OTHER surreal thing which nobody talks about much?
How many GREAT men kill themselves...
Only just found out today Graham Thorpe died about a year ago... what a batsman...

died. I could have died about 200 times in my life but God/and the universe didn't want me to...
You have to understand though that for the INFLUENTIAL writers and artists... many of them are MORE FAMOUS after death...

Now again I'm not saying I'm near these people kind of levels BUT my writing will still be there after I'm dead. Over 10 million views worldwide so far.
Interesting note perhaps... dumb lefty or fakers writing still might be there AFTER their deaths... yet history may just either laugh at them or forget them.
It's interesting that on my blog my post from 2012 on Having A Long Term Perspective is still getting views...
Surreal to think a few of my readers would either have not been born or be small children when I wrote that...
I always have had that mentality I guess. Want to be one of the best young chessplayers in Yorkshire? No alcohol for you, bad for your brain and pocket. Cigarettes? A short term hit for damaging your lungs... no.
I don't even have any tattoos or piercings. Now of course there are plenty of attractive girls with tattoos who have pictures with me... I'm not going to stop THEM getting tattoos but me...
Not best use of my money. How would it look as I grow older...
