Why A Lot of 'The Media' was biased Towards a Remain Vote in the EU Election

Blasting this one out early in the morning...

I would quite like to make this a longer more detailed article where I may get paid for it because it's a very interesting concept... but getting paid for writing is VERY HARD. I'm opting to blast it out while it's fresh in my mind because it might benefit me and you anyway...

Coming up to the last week of the week of the referendum for the UK's membership of the EU most of the media were reporting about how practically all of the 'opinion polls' suggested the UK would remain in the EU. There was a lot of talk about 'opinion polls' in the lead up to the vote. As with the General Election, they were inaccurate.

Quick note on the validity of opinion polls. You can never rely on them too much. They take a relatively small sample, a few hundred people perhaps, and from their responses they try and predict how a WHOLE NATION will vote. There are 65 million people in the UK now and around 40 million voters. Each is different person with different views.

It's far better to look at the actual results of past elections. In the last EU elections UKIP got more votes than any other party. They also got 4 million votes in the last general election. The Conservative party got the most votes in the last election and plenty of Tories are Eurosceptic. And a lot of Labour voters or voters in traditional 'Labour areas' are too. This suggests a lot of 'anti EU' feeling in the UK.

Anyway... why do I think a lot of the traditional 'TV' media at least was biased towards wanting or leading people to believe that a vote for remaining in the EU was best? Two main reasons I think. One... a lot of TV media such as ITV and Sky News are paid for by advertising... a lot from companies that would benefit from being in the EU like HSBC or LLoyds. Now it may be 'subconscious' and I wouldn't say it was blatantly overt but it isn't a good idea for these companies to annoy their paymasters. The BBC actually gets funding from the EU as well.

And perhaps the people in the traditional media are more likely to favour a Remain vote themselves. A lot of it is based in London which as a city voted to Remain. People are usually convinced that their own ideas are 'right'. It could well be a benefit to them personally if the UK remained in the EU. The FT was overtly in favour of Britain being in the EU and said that we would probably vote to Remain. Of course people like Peter Mandleson and others funded by the EU such as many MEPs are going to advocate a Remain view.

And have you noticed that once the result has been released the traditional or mainstream media has been quite... somber? In general you could describe the tone as worried.

Anyway... I'm doing poker at the same time so time to wrap this article up for now. A few key points- just because the mainstream media want something to be true doesn't mean that it is. Everyone is doing what they think is best for themselves- people will produce things to try and make you believe what they believe sometimes. It would have been better for me to trust my instincts and knowledge that the country was going to vote Leave and sold some of my shares accordingly.

Quick edit... I understand there are pros and cons of being in the EU... just feel that this concept is interesting to explore.

Shares

Some of my shares are killing it... BP, Shell, BATS, Glaxo... I think the 'next level' for me as a share investor is somehow 'working out' which shares are going to go up or down sharply then pile cash into them. I'm OK at getting into 'long term' good value shares but have plenty more to learn. At least I'm up at least £2500 today...

Long Term Buy and Hold

It's fine being a 'long term buy and hold' investor generally but with events like this you have to know when to sell. I told myself this would potentially be a time to sell (yesterday) a long time ago but I didn't do it. I have to promise myself that if an event like this comes around in the future I will sell before the drop.

I mean there's no point being buy and hold forever because eventually I'll die and need to sell at some point anyway.

Instincts

If I'm going to 'take anything' out of this result it should be to trust my instincts not the 'mass media'. I should have sold practically all my shares yesterday but since I haven't sold for over 9 years it's almost like I don't know how to sell. Selling yesterday and possibly buying back today would have been a good move.

Voted Remain

I have voted to Remain in the EU. This was probably the most difficult political decision of my life, based on many hours of research. Being directly honest with you, it was my position as a share investor that was the key factor. If we remain in the EU shares will continue to go up if we leave they will fall down sharply at least in the short term. If you're a share investor you probably know this already, but I was shocked just how much the market went down just at the THOUGHT we could leave the EU.

There also could be economic issues if we leave the EU. Plenty of companies have said so, but to be honest with you Martin Lewis and Chris Bailey believing there could be problems leads me to believe there at least could be. I can see how for the companies I partly own it could cause problems anyway.

I can understand why people might vote for Brexit. I am no fan at all of mass immigration. We pay too much to Brussles and they impose too many laws. I think this will be a close result either way- so your vote really does count in this election. Hundreds of people just from Poland read my last EU article...

I hope the closeness of this election will lead the UK to implement a tougher immigration policy. This may be difficult but with nearly half or just over half of voters thinking they should leave the EU they must try.

Anyway at least you know how I voted now. Probably the main thing you can take from this article is that if you're a share investor it's safer for you personally at the moment to vote Remain.

Newbury Walk

Posting this now...

At some point, possibly September this year, 12 Newbury Walk will be available either as a whole property or for one tenant in that property.

The rent will be around £540 for the whole property or around £280 for one tenant. The deposit will be about five weeks rent.

This is a good opportunity for you. The property cost £124,000 and improvements have been made to it since then. The property has 2 bedrooms, new boiler, good condition and a free parking space. There is an alarm system and I'm considering investing in CCTV for the property. There is also free visitor parking. It's a new build with a water meter so the running costs are low.

With the one tenant option you will be living with me so it's key that you're someone I will get along with. You'll probably have a full time job and good social intelligence.

So I'm letting you all know now so you have plenty of time to prepare for this!

Change Your Mind... Change Your Life

Blasting this one out after a big day of poker yesterday, fun night out last night and just back from nice walk...

I started reading a book yesterday and it was good enough to change my mind. I'm going to keep this book to myself for now because it's THAT GOOD but if you're a close friend I'll tell you.

Important point... getting high quality info FROM BOOKS is GOOD. I'm going to spend more time doing this and less time 'surfing the internet'.

Good writing and books stand the test of time. For self development books though the key is if THEY MAKE YOU TAKE ACTION. I've read quite a lot of them but now I'm just going to put the principles into action. I already am doing but will more.

So yeah over 58,000 views from all around the world now... amazing. Clicking with people from around the globe, a hundred years ago it would have been practically impossible. There's more to come- video content and more 'business' perhaps.

If you find value in this site and my goals CLICK BELOW NOW to donate. Donations are also at a record high and the more you donate the more high quality value I'll be able to provide.

I'm comfortably six figures in money but it's still part of life so I want to get more. Feel free to get in contact with me if you want me to write for your site.

Up Your Game

Blasting this one out after a nice bath and good walk...

Exercise is v important and I'm going to do more!

If you speak to high quality people it can make you up your game. Let's go in direct with one recent example from me. Chris Bailey Financial Orbit and I talk about shares most days. He seems to work AT LEAST A TWELVE HOUR DAY on shares practically EVERY DAY. Been reading more of his writing recently... helps me learn more about shares. Thankfully I've bought more Shell recently which he also has and it's done very well. But talking and reading his writing it's clear that there's a lot more I can learn about shares. And I have to push my comfort zone to earn more money to invest in shares.

If you speak to high quality women makes you realize that you may well have to UP YOUR GAME if you're going to connect with them. An attractive socially intelligent (possibly rich too) woman will have LOTS OF OPTIONS. The good thing is though a socially intelligent man who talks to attractive women has lots of options too... but really I think just drives you on to improve yourself just so you can be with that level of woman.

It's like... male and female energy bounces off each other. Those attractive girls ARE wanting for a high quality man to talk to them... because there aren't too many around who will!

Managing A Six Figure Share Portfolio

So word up... woke up at about 6am and had a thought for a NEW ARTICLE that could help me make more money potentially...

Blasting this one out quite quick but again it's one of those minimalist creations that could actually help YOU make more money too.

I tell people that I 'manage a six figure share portfolio'. And I do. It's just that my idea of managing it is to buy good shares and just... hold them. It's a bit like a surreal dream when they go up THOUSANDS OF POUNDS A DAY... with me doing NOTHING.

But anyway. Yesterday at one point Shell were up 2% on the price I bought them a few trading hours before. Even with FTSE 100 shares you will see this quite often- there are rises of say 3% within a few hours of trading.

So anyway... just a quick thought entered my mind. I could actually just sell the Shell and make a profit on my trade. I didn't as this would defeat the purpose of its great dividend yield... and I BELIEVE it will go up more in future. However I and you COULD sell shares like that after a short period and make money. It would be better to do that and make money rather than having it in the bank earning little interest.

Hmm hmm hmm. At some point in my life probably I will do some 'shorter term trading' as unless I can be the only person who CHEATS DEATH I will die eventually. So you don't need 'long term investments' when you're dead. I could just do some shorter term trading and spend the money if I wanted to.

Little bit of thought needed to get this next bit out... ok then I think I've found a fun way of expressing though. You COULD make money that way but... hmm I think it's good if you have the experience of being a long term investor doing it too. I mean some people like to or have 'day traded' before. There's 'plenty of profit to be made'. But I think if you're investing KNOWING that you HAVE to sell in like a day or a few days that's bad. All depends how much money you make. I am not a day trader... people like Rupert Hargreaves have more experience in that than me!

Quick final blast. The ability of MANAGING a six figure share portfolio shows in HOW MUCH PROFIT YOU MAKE. That's all that counts. Over 11 years in there are still different things I could be doing to make more money. And it fully made me realize that with a bit more money I could be a full time investor if I wanted to be.

Hustle

Really on the hustle today- bought Shell at a good price, getting easy money doing surveys, doing poker as I type. A lot of jobs have contacted me and I'm looking for an interesting role to start ASAP!

Share Thoughts

Looking at shares to buy... two fairly new thoughts. One is that "better to buy than interest" one and there's potentially one share in my portfolio I may sell if I feel I can get better returns elsewhere.

Another thought about executing a trade... this may be important if you have little time/you earn a HIGH amount per hour. What I can do now if I want is access the latest trades, make the right calculation on how much I want to invest then make the trade quickly if I want. Or as I have been doing 'stalk' the price to get it SLIGHTLY CHEAPER sometimes. But you have to ask yourself- the downside is I could have got it slightly cheaper perhaps... but how much upside is there? Food for thought.
