Not Only The Views

 Not Only The Views

Blasting this out after my walk... need to keep doing these... nice British weather now...

So...

Some people might measure a writer by views. People who wants stats involved...

For the
@MarkHowitt
fans out there I'm on around five million worldwide now.

@Financial_Orbit
will be on around 500 million...

But who is the BETTER WRITER...

Had quick chat with my dad about this yesterday... I basically said... he might be more well known than me for writing about SHARES... yet I'm still the better writer overall...

Because it really isn't just about the VIEWS or the MONEY you get while you're alive on how you should be judged as a writer. It's your actual ABILITY TO WRITE. Being able to SAY SOMETHING MEANINGFUL. BEING ABLE TO HAVE AN IMPACT WORLDWIDE.

Let's look at two writers who are at the SUPER GM LEVEL...

Nietzsche... German philosopher. SOLD VERY FEW BOOKS WHILE ALIVE. Gay and ended up truly mad. STILL ONE OF THE BEST AND MOST IMPACTFUL WRITERS of the 19th century. I think he got God wrong though... but I've only seen that in recent years...

George Orwell... reading this you might have heard of him right? But a lot of people in their twenties in the UK haven't now...

GEORGE ORWELL WASN'T EVEN HIS BIRTH NAME.

His birth name was Eric Blair, born in India. Changed his name to sound more British. He wanted to be a writer from a YOUNG AGE. Yet he had basically no success in his twenties. Got shot in the Spanish Civil War.

His best work 1984... prophetic... he had to go to a REMOTE SCOTTISH ISLAND to write that... died about a year later...

He really MASTERED THE STYLE AND BEING ABLE TO SEE THE FUTURE by that point..

Big smoker, probably drank too. Obviously getting SHOT isn't very healthy. Dead at about 47... way more famous after death...

These days someone like Rio Ferdinand can write 'never a pen' and get hundreds of thousands of views...

As a writer you have to your OWN style or maybe even SEVERAL DIFFERENT STYLES like
@chuckpalahniuk
...

Yet you must still write something meaningful. And ideally have an impact on the world.

@MarkHowitt
thanks his true readers. More to come.
