Some people ask... are you a real GrandMaster?
Many of you will only have read the public content on this blog... yet what goes in the DMs... sometimes it's surreal, sometimes it's comical......
Not everything I have written is now in the public domain, just as in years gone by you would have to go to a library or buy a book to know the author. God knows I've spent plenty of time and money doing that...
The only areas where I could classify myself at the GrandMaster level are reading and writing... and my friends know even sometimes I have a few thoughts in my mind questioning whether I deserve the title. What I'll do then is ask someone random whether someone who has over ten million views worldwide on his writing deserves the title and everyone says yes.
Truth is in terms of actual ability I probably was at the level in around 2005...
What would GrandMaster Orwell say of Britain and the world today? He died a few years after my age... after blasting out his best work on a remote Scottish island...
Many chessplayers reach the title of International Master at a young age yet never claim the highest title. Yet I have been lucky enough to chat to many chess GrandMasters now, and some I count as friends. In 2003 I never would have imagined GrandMaster Spraggett who defeated World Champion GrandMaster Karpov would feature my writing and link to my blog yet it's happened...
Ask a 20 year old Mark Howitt if he would have a Women's World Champion GrandMaster Kosteniuk posting him a DVD through the post and he would have just laughed at you. Happened again... all I can say is I am loyal and links to both remain on my site to this day...
If you're a young writer struggling to make it now... just imagine what can happen years in the future. It takes belief, confidence and discipline yet it you have the talent and want it enough amazing things can happen...
I want to achieve much more in different areas. It's surreal how many beautiful women I've experienced yet hopefully I am not too old to experience more. I'm officially single at the moment so what can I say... get in touch if you're smart...
