Why As An Employer Would I Value Chess As a Skill?

Why As An Employer Would I Value Chess As a Skill?

So I've been involved in training quite a few salespeople, especially for British Gas. Richard Boylan who I found out about the job from was a decent chessplayer- he was higher rated than me then but not now.

I've been through the uni system and being directly honest a lot of people cheat. Not that many have discipline- some just like to take drugs and drink etc. Now a few chessplayers do that but the top ones can't afford to.

Even someone playing chess at an OK club level, saying 1500 ECF OTB or 1800 online rating has at least some calculation ability and determination. If I saw someone with an ECF rating over 1800 who had experience in the field I was recruiting him in I'd be very likely to hire him.

Let's see how my interviews go next week ;)
