Huddersfield have a storied history in chess. Its residents created what was to become the oldest chess magazine, and famous players have lived and played here...
Just like the football team however, sometimes it can be hard to predict the results when it comes to its current chessplayers. Sure, I did expect a Huddersfield win today... yet if you asked me at the start of the season if Huddersfield would win every single game in the Yorkshire league I'd be surprised.
As one of the strongest current chessplayers living in Huddersfield, I thought about making myself available for selection, yet told myself I hadn't trained enough. Holmfirth could have put out a stronger team than this. Readers worldwide should know that most chessplayers are NOT PAID for playing the vast majority of league chess, and may choose to do something else instead...
Truth of the matter is, many of Yorkshire's best young players were playing the British Rapidplay on Saturday down south. However... Holmfirth probably wished that some of their players would make a short trip to a venue they've played many times before. Greg Eagleton, defeated by the writer with the black pieces in 2004 despite some help from his dad, was no where to be seen. Isaacc Fossey has decided to play for Doncaster. Thinking of the future, Holmfirth could perhaps have selected Jacob Westmoreland...
A comfortable victory, and one that ensures that Huddersfield wins the IM Brown. Congratulations!

Donation

Please donate if you can to support my writing and journalism.

Writing is the only way I can make sense of the world really... even though a GM writer does have to go out and experience it too. Doing so today was pushing my comfort zone a bit, although to be honest I could have done more...
I have private pictures and benefits I give to donors. I probably should push that more, maybe even create some video content. Thank you for your support, more to come...

Reform

 Right...

Time to go pretty deep on this one...
Prove my GM title again...
Going to make it direct now... because in terms of UK politics 2026 could well be the endgame...
Reform UK cannot AFFORD to turn away good candidates. I know from PERSONAL experience we need to attract more quality candidates in Kirklees. There are 69 seats up for grabs, the first time I can recall this being the case.
So many people are disinterested or disillusioned in politics. Many people have better things to do with their time. I'm writing this at 1.24am in the morning when I should be asleep...
And I DON'T BLAME THEM. In council elections often when you look at the actual number of people in the ward (who knows how many illegal immigrants there are in some wards) it's only about 30% of people who even bother to vote. I often haven't. You won't EVER catch me voting for the traitors of the Lib Dems or Labour. I literally ripped up a leaflet from the paid campaigners of the Lib Dems recently.
We have a situation in the UK now where Labour are trying to cancel elections AGAIN because they know how badly they could be beaten in May.
Now Reform could be the force that causes them to lose HUNDREDS of seats again. But there will be challenges...
I have studied the history of right wing parties for many years and it is often infighting which causes them to lose. We cannot afford this to happen when women are literally being raped and people are being stabbed on a daily basis.
There is a real potential that the right could be split to extent if Reform don't have people with the passion, energy and vision to change this country for the better. I know of many cases where this is already happening to an extent. There are two main things people who are turned away from Reform could do. One is stand as an independent or for another right wing party. They could well win with enough local fame and support.
Yet the other is...
And I believe this has already happened too...
The people could simply give up on politics. There are already plenty of British people who are wondering where their next meal is going to come from while illegals are being fed at tax payers expense in hotels.
We cannot afford for this to happen.
I will continue to write and work to help make this country better. Thank you for your support.
