How Much Are The Fees?

 How Much Are The Fees?

This is a quick preview..... prob will be added to later today.... yet I like to get it out fresh!

Just How Much are The Fees... for private schools... the kind that have produced top chessplayers...?

For QEGS Wakefield... for years 7 plus it's around £16,900 PER YEAR...... (This is more after tax than a lot of people earn in TOTAL in a year in the UK.)

That's not including uniform or some extra add ons...

I would assume Leeds Grammar and Bradford Grammar are similar...... will aim to get these figures fairly soon.......

When I was at QEGS we could play chess at lunchtime and some after school matches... but there was NO SPECIALIST chess trainer in the school. The two teachers I had at QEGS junior school Mr Crowther and Mr Meredith... I would guess they might be 900 strength or less in today's ratings...

But they didn't really COACH anyone just let them play..........

The fees will be MORE for private schools in the south..... for example Eton!

So THIS is what some parents pay to have their children get HIGHER QUALITY education. I've checked the Yorkshire grading list and their are some players listed as QEGS Wakefield and Leeds Grammar school for example.

£16,900 per year. So say for example to attend QEGS Senior School for 7 years just in fees at the moment...

£118,300 in total!!

Wows...

Now when I look back at my education chess was one of the most important things I learnt... and certainly good for some forms of intelligence...

And yes I know these figures will rise with inflation etc so looking forward it will be more than £120,000 in total to attend a school like that for 7 years....

I can see now why private specialist chess teachers are in demand...
